Eurasianism

We recently wrote about Alexandr Dugin and we have also written about Vladimir Putin. We now wish to present a few quotes from an article by Matthew Raphael Johnson, a scholar of Russian Orthodox history and philosophy, who discusses the works of several Eurasianist thinkers. While his article, which is sympathetic toward the ideas of Dugin and others, does make a few good points, it also confirms that Eurasianism is fundamentally incompatible with, and opposed to, European civilization and White racialism.

“The Eurasian idea is one that both defines those within it as well as excludes those without. In this case, the ‘other’ is the ‘West.”

“there are three basic concepts of Russian Eurasianism that can serve as the basis of foreign policy. In all cases, the idea of the USSR lies at the root.”

“The USSR needs to be reborn”

“In Ukraine, the far Eastern coal and steel areas remain staunch Russian supporters and, to a great extent, neo-communists.”

“Savitsky stresses that the Mongol occupation was not destructive for Russia, but quite the opposite. The Horde was a culturally advanced people who protected Russia from the inroads of western religious ideology. All occupied lands, so Savitsky and Most Eurasians would argue, did well under Mongol administration.”

“Most importantly, Savitsky argued as early as 1928 that the future belongs to Asia.”

“Russians are not Europeans, or at least not entirely European. Russians are mixtures of Slav, Mongol and Turkish blood that help inform their genetics. This means that Russians are genetically related to the Caucasian and some Central Asian peoples. In addition, this ‘third world’ blood makes the Russians an ideal intermediary between Asia and Europe, or even Europe and the third world.”

“In Russia’s case, the Eurasianists do not normally use an ethnic criterion of membership”

“the Slavic and Turkic connection is clear – the Slavs will be dealing with Asians as equal partners within a single ‘civilizational space'”

“The Eurasianist—naturally—sees southern and eastern Asia to be the future.”

Eurasianism is not limited to Russia and Putin fanboys in the West. The Hungarian Jobbik party’s leader Gábor Vona believes in Eurasianism, on the basis that, according to him, Hungarians are actually a Turkic people, which should unite with other Turkic peoples. This view is called Turanism. Vona incorrectly believes that Hungarians and Turks are “brotherly nations” and “connected by common blood”.

Alexandr Dugin with Gábor Vona

An article describing a lecture which Vona held in Turkey reports that Vona said:

“Jobbik will never cooperate with any ‘right-wing’ Western radical organization that considers Turkey and Islam enemies. . . . Anti-Islamic and anti-Turkish Western European hate-mongers can only learn from Muslims and the Turks . . . The Jobbik president stressed that Jobbik considers Turkey and all other Turkic peoples kindred nations . . .  Islam [is] humanity’s last hope in the darkness of globalism and liberalism.”

Eurasianism presents itself as an alternative to modernity. But radical Islam is also an alternative to modernity. We would obviously not support Islamism, no matter how opposed it is to liberal democracy and MTV anti-culture. Both Eurasianism and Islam are world-views for non-Whites and mixed peoples. Such world-views might or might not be good for them – and if they are good for them, if they unite and strengthen non-Western nations, odds are that it would be bad for us.
